Identify an international challenge that Coca-Cola might face in terms of ethical issues and cultural differences.

Ethical Issues 

Selling soft drinks and signing exclusive contracts with school boards to only sell their drinks.
  • Soft drinks are unhealthy and high in sugar contents. Students should be provided with healthier alternatives, but Coca-Cola had developed agreements with schools to control the beverage market within schools.
Promotion of Coca-Cola products in school environments.
  • With large sums of payments to school boards, Coca-Cola is able to purchase the right to advertise their product to students in educational institutes. Students should have the right to learn in a commercial-free environment.
Cultural Differences
 
There are different health and safety laws regulating different countries. In countries with lower standards, Coca-Cola takes advantage to manipulate their system.

In India 
  • Coca-Cola beverages were tested to have 30 times higher pesticides level than European Union standards.
In Mexico
  • Mexican government under Vincente Fox has given Coca-Cola the rights to exploit the community water resource. Fox himself was a former Coca-Cola president.
In Columbia
  • Used paramilitary acts to engage anti-union movements. Six casualties resulted since 1990.
In Turkey
  • Coca-Cola is being sued by transport workers for alleged intimidation and torture of trade unionism via manipulating the police force.
In Nicaragua
  • Denied the right to organize and form unions.
